Dallas, June. 25 (AP): An online
auction house has purchased a section of fencing from the scene
of President John F Kennedy's assassination for nearly USD 33,000.
The purchase by GoldenPalace.com
adds to the casino's collection of artifacts, which includes a
grilled cheese sandwich bearing the image of the Virgin Mary and
an invitation to the cancelled wedding of runaway bride Jennifer
Wilbanks.
The auction, offered by Lelands.com,
closed yesterday. Lelands said that the fence has been repaired
a number of times over the years and few of the pickets are believed
to be original.
The metal posts were the only portion
that may have been on the grassy knoll the day Kennedy was shot
in November 1963, said Gary Mack, Curator at the Sixth Floor Museum
in Dallas, which is dedicated to Kennedy's life.
When a construction crew began dismantling
the fence to replace it in January 2000, a tour guide grabbed
four sections and put them into storage.
When the storage payments weren't
made, the fence was sold at public auction to a man from Texas.
The man approached Lelands last year about reselling it, said
Simeon Lipman, Director of Americana at the New York-based auction
house.

FROM MY BACKYARD - Who shot the president
By Byron Higgin
It's been the standard joke for many years. Do you know who killed President
Kennedy?
I recall a movie with Nicholas Cage in which secret film is discovered and
he gets his hands on it and points to the film and tells his girl friend, "Do
you want to know who shot President Kennedy?"
Well, a local man says he knows and he's written a book to tell all.

Selling
a stake in assassination lore
Exclusive: Grassy knoll's stockade fence - or what's left of it - to be auctioned
More than 40 years later, mysteries swirl around every facet of President John
F. Kennedy's assassination.
Now there's a new one. On Sunday, Lelands.com auction house opens bidding on
an artifact now firmly a part of American history the weathered stockade fence
that once stood at the edge of the grassy knoll. Simeon Lipman, director of
Americana at the New York auction firm, calls it "probably the most famous
fence in the world." "Everyone has heard stories of what might or
might not have been behind that fence" when JFK was killed. "As far
as fences go," he said, "it doesn't get any better." And while
its origins are undisputed a Dealey Plaza tour guide recovered portions of
the fence when it was torn down in January 2000 some question how much of this
fence stood when the president's motorcade passed Nov. 22, 1963.

You've
no doubt seen this quote making the rounds:
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment
insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of
that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of
course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you
possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional
politician or business man from other areas.5 Their number is negligible and
they are stupid."
